International Scientific Conference “Historical Arms and Armour in Museum and Private Collections”, October 24 – 26, 2017. The Moscow Kremlin Museums (The Moscow Kremlin State Historical and Cultural Museum and Heritage Site) holds an international scientific conference ‘Historical weapons in museum and private collections’. 6th International Science-practical conference “Warfare and weapons. New researches and materials”

6th International Science-practical conference “Warfare and weapons. New researches and materials” is held 13-15 May 2015 in the Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps (Russia, St.Petersburg). The main purpose is to present new contemporary research and materials of warfare and weaponology since ancient times to the present day, exchange of information about monuments of military history, weaponry, that are stored in museums of Russia and other countries, discussion of preservation, exhibition and restoration problems. All the materials of the conference will be published by its opening. International Science-practical conference “Warfare and weapons. New researches and materials” has been held since 2010 and it is the most significant one in Russia in this field. Review. Guerrilla weapons: the catalog of collection. The Belarusian Great Patriotic War Museum; ed. G.V.Scorinko, S.A.Loparev. Minsk, 2014 ISBN 978-985-7083-26-8 The book presents a unique collection of self-made weapons, which were made and used by Soviet partisans who fought in Belarus in 1941-1944. The museum exposition opened on 22 October 1944 in Minsk (Belarus). The catalog of the collection was published in the year of the 70th anniversary of Belarus liberation. The author and editors are G.V.Scorinko, the deputy of the Chief curator of The Belarusian Great Patriotic War Museum, and S.A.Loparev, the author of a series of articles about partisans’ weapons. The main content of the book is the collection of self-made submachine guns made by artisans of partisans’ troops. Dear Colleagues, By the beginning of 20th century Russian historical weaponology had already been formed, while during the Soviet period it almost did not develop disappearing not only from the university curriculum, but also specialized publications. Only single materials were published mostly due to archaeological research. Ignoring historical weaponolgy as a historical discipline led not only to the decrease in a number scientific works and experts but also to the shortage of sources, which were concentrated in special repositories with an extremely limited access. Now the situation is improving. Reprinted and adapted republished works of 19th century, recent and absolutely new works by Russian and foreign experts are making up for the shortage of information. The debate environment is being actively formed both as customary conferences and as a new form of debate on specialized websites.
